The Little Mermaid

Once upon a time there was a little mermaid who longed so much to have a human body and to be able to walk and fly like human beings do. She therefore asked her father, the King of the Sea, for three wishes. He gave her the wishes, and the Little Mermaid soon wished to have a human body. She prayed to the god of the sea and the wish was fulfilled.

The Little Mermaid now had a human body and could walk on land, but she still couldn't fly. She decided to go to the world above and find a prince who would love her and give her the happiness she had always dreamed of.

She swam up the river and came to a great city. She saw princes and princesses walking in the streets and laughing and playing. She longed to be one of them, but she knew that she couldn't become a princess until she found a prince who loved her.

One day, she saw a beautiful prince walking in the park and she fell in love with him at first sight. She swam closer and closer to him, until she was close enough to speak to him. She told him who she was and how she had come to be there.

The prince was surprised to hear that she was a mermaid, but he still fell in love with her. He proposed to her and she accepted his proposal. She swam closer to him and kissed him, and then she died, because she had given up her life in the sea for him.

Now she was a princess and she had found happiness, but it came at a price. She knew that she would never be able to go back to her father or her sisters, but she didn't care. She was happy with the prince and that was all that mattered to her.
