The little mermaid took the potion and transformed into a beautiful young woman. She spent those three days with the prince, helping him break the curse and becoming his true love. But when the time came to return to her mermaid self, she knew that she couldn't leave him behind.

So she sacrificed herself and gave up her chance at becoming human forever, so that she could be with the prince. And in doing so, she taught us all a valuable lesson about love and sacrifice.
