Once upon a time, there was a haunted house in the woods. It was said to be the former home of a very wicked witch, who had died there a long time ago. People claimed to see her shadowy figure moving through the halls, and to hear her shrill laughter echoing through the empty rooms.

One night, a group of brave teenagers decided to explore the house, curious to see if they could prove or disprove the legend. They arrived at the house and ventured inside, holding hands and peering into the dark corners.

As they walked through the house, they heard noises coming from upstairs. A creaking floorboard, a slamming door, and then a soft, melancholic wail. The group stopped in their tracks, unsure what to make of it all.

One of the teens, a brave but skeptical girl named Amy, suggested that they ignore the noises and continue exploring. But her friends were spooked and wanted to leave. Finally, they all agreed to stay put and wait for whatever was upstairs to come down.

As they waited, they heard footsteps coming from the basement. They peered down the stairs and saw a figure moving slowly towards them. It was a tall, dark figure with a pale face and long, dark hair. They all knew it was the witch from the legend.

In unison, they screamed and ran out of the house as fast as they could. They never went back, and the house remained unoccupied and rumored to be haunted until this day.

That night, they learned a valuable lesson: stay away from haunted houses and believe in nothing more than their own good sense. But for now, they knew that they would never forget that night in the woods, when they encountered something that was neither of their making nor of this world.
