However, the prince soon realized that he could not live without his true love, the princess. He married her and the mermaid, filled with jealousy and anger, decided to curse her for betraying her friendship and kindness.

But, no matter how hard she tried, the curse could not be put on someone who was loved. A kindly squire realized what was happening and befriended the enraged mermaid. He taught her how to speak and befriend others, which would eventually help her find happiness.

Finally, the mermaid found happiness as she married the squire and they lived happily ever after. She was able to love and be loved, which was what she had always wanted.
