英文故事:The Little Match Girl

Once upon a time, there was a little match girl who lived in a poor village. Every day, she would gather matches from the rubbish bins and sell them to earn a few coins. One cold winter night, she was walking along the street with a bundle of matches in her hand when she saw a group of children playing with matches outside a rich merchant's house. She wanted to join them, but she knew she had no matches of her own. So she decided to ask the merchant for some matches.

She knocked on the door and waited, but no one answered. She tried again and again, but still no one came to the door. Then she heard a voice from inside the house say, "Go away, I don't want any matches from a beggar like you." The little girl was heartbroken and she decided to go home.

As she walked along the street, she tried to light a match to keep herself warm. But she had no matches left. She walked and walked, until she came to a snow-covered field. She sat down and cried, feeling so alone and abandoned. Suddenly, she noticed a sparkling light coming from the snow. She struck a match and it turned out to be a sparkling jewel that was lost in the snow.

She decided to go back to the merchant's house with the jewel in her hand. She knocked on the door again and this time someone answered. It was the merchant's wife who came to see what was going on. The little girl explained her situation and the merchant's wife was moved by her story. She gave her some money and some more matches to take home with her.

The little match girl went home with her newfound wealth and was able to buy food for her family and some warm clothes for herself. From then on, she no longer needed to beg for matches and she was able to live a happy life.

This story taught us that we should always be kind and compassionate towards others, even if they are poor or have faced hardships in life. We should never judge people based on their appearance or circumstances, but rather on their character and kindness.

The little match girl's story also reminds us that we should never give up hope or despair in life, but always look for opportunities and help when we need it most. With kindness and compassion, we can change our own lives as well as those around us for the better.
