Language is one of the main signs of human beings moving from obscurity to enlightenment, and also the main medium of communication. It is hard to imagine how serious the human survival and development would be if there was no language. If words are derivatives of language, language is a communication medium that lacks fixedness compared to words.

Due to the alternation of objective factors such as the natural environment, region and ethnicity, modern people living in different countries have formed different language systems. Modern people in the same country have gradually formed refined language factions for the above reasons. Its main feature is that it is attached to the same type of text, but the verbal pronunciation is slightly different. In terms of habit, we refer to this kind of Chinese language that is attached to the same language but with a slight difference in verbal pronunciation.

Although the formation and development of language has certain regularity, with the frequent and deeper regional exchanges, especially the promotion of Mandarin, dialects have shown a shrinking phenomenon to a certain extent. The role of Mandarin is to facilitate people's oral communication, and it turns out that it does play this role. From the perspective of cultural exchanges, due to the promotion of Mandarin, the phenomenon of “not ventilating for ten miles and not being popular” has basically become history. Today, when Mandarin promotion has achieved staged success, as long as one's oral ability is not too much problem, he will not have any difficulties in communication. Mandarin has become a real “passport”.

However, we should see that while Mandarin has eliminated various communication barriers for people, it has invisibly encroached on the development space of dialects, which has led to the shrinking of dialects to a certain extent. Especially after the 1970s, people gradually flocked to the city from the countryside due to the change of social form. Relatively speaking, the national language atmosphere of the city is much stronger than the village. In addition, with the improvement of China's educational level, the Mandarin language that began to flourish from the beginning of the 70s, followed by the post-80s and 90s, is even more important. Although the dialects will not disappear in the hands of the above-mentioned three generations because of the previous generation, in the context of such a dominant national language, especially today, when the population is large, how likely will their next generation inherit their hometown? What about the dialect? Of course, due to the large population movement, dialects may be inherited by foreigners in a cross-infected way, but this complementarity is like a great irony in the Americans' back to the Analects.

As an intangible cultural heritage, the dialect should be passed down from generation to generation in a natural way, just like the genetic code in our lives. If this continuation becomes deliberate, even ritualized and professional, it proves that our context is problematic. It was originally close to the lives of ordinary people, which proves that it should always be a part of people's lives and a self-evident legacy. When we leave the world, we may be able to leave a variety of legacy to future generations, but what they need most is actually a pure dialect, a silent call of hometown. With that call, they can follow the cultural roots of this nation, including some very trivial but vital components.

If the dialect continues to shrink, it will inevitably lead to the shrinking of local literature and art. The local literature and art represented by the opera will be more and more unsuccessful. Although the shrinking of local literature and art is not caused by a single cause, if there is no such foundation, the authentic local opera will inevitably disappear, and the culture of the Chinese nation will have an irreparable gap. If there are not a few 90s who will speak Anhui, can we sing Huangmei opera in Mandarin?

In the face of this seemingly funny question, we should be silent and act.
