Tell me at any time that I can do it.
In 1982, Steven Callahan sailed across the Atlantic alone, and the boat didn't know what was sunk on the way. He deviated from the fairway and floated alone in the life raft. There is not much left in the supply, and the chances of survival are slim. However, when the three fishermen found him after 76 days, he was still alive (the one who survived the life raft only after the shipwreck) - just a lot less than the start, but still alive.
His description is fascinating for how he survived. Among them, the story of his tactful little creation - how to fish, how to install a solar distiller (evaporating sea water to get fresh water) - is really interesting.
But what I am most interested in is how he persisted in his life when he felt completely desperate and continued to fight when it seemed meaningless. The life raft was punctured. He dragged his weak body for more than a week to repair, but it still leaked, so he exhausted all his strength to blow. He is hungry, deep dehydrated, and physically exhausted. Giving up seems to be the only sensible choice.
Being able to survive in such a harsh environment relies on courage from the heart. In a similar desperate situation, many people will yield and go crazy. And something in the survivor's mind can make them bravely persist. No matter how bad the situation is.
"I told myself that I can do it," Callahan wrote in the self-report. "I am lucky compared to other people's experiences. I have said this to myself over and over again, so that I can be strong."
After reading it, I wrote down this sentence and was deeply shocked. Whenever the goal is out of reach or difficult, I will motivate myself. Every time, I will regain my confidence.
In fact, our situation is nothing but worse than a better situation. Many people have experienced a worse situation. Many historical stories tell me that no matter how much our life is worse than imagined, you and I should be lucky today. This is a rational idea and worth pondering.
The following is the message from the edge of life and death, it will give us the power: no matter what you are going through, tell yourself that you can cope, you are lucky compared to other people's experiences. Tell these words over and over again, it will give you a toughness to help you overcome the predicament.
