Chinese New Year customs

Time is really flying! In the blink of an eye, I have spent more than a dozen New Years... This is not, the New Year is coming again.

On New Year's Eve, our family reunion and eat New Year's Eve, this is our common custom of New Year's Eve. According to historical records, this custom first originated in the Northern and Southern Dynasties and gradually became popular in the later period. In the early Tang Dynasty, Emperor Taizong Li Shimin wrote the poem "Shou Shou": "Cold resigns to winter snow, warmth brings spring breeze." To this day, our people Also used to staying on the New Year's Eve, the firecrackers outside the house, sitting indoors watching TV, the family laughed again and again...

It is said that the earliest rice cake was used for the ancestors of the gods and the dynasties, and later became the Spring Festival food.

We also have an indispensable dish during the Chinese New Year - dumplings. Eat dumplings to take the "more old-fashioned" meaning, "child" is "child", and the "dumpling" homophonic, "happy reunion" and "good luck" meaning. But why is it indispensable? The reason for this is that the dumplings are shaped like ingots, the dumplings in the Spring Festival take the meaning of “recruiting treasures”, and the second is that the dumplings have stuffing, so that people can pack all kinds of auspicious things into the stuffing to pin people to the new year. Pray. In some areas, while eating dumplings, they also need some non-staple food to show Geely. If you eat tofu, it symbolizes the happiness of the whole family; eating dried persimmons symbolizes everything; eating three fresh vegetables symbolizes Sanyang Kaitai. Taiwanese people eat fish balls, meat balls and hair dishes, which symbolizes reunion and wealth.

We still have to bless the words after sweeping the house on the 28th of the twelfth lunar month! The word "Fu" is now interpreted as "happiness", while in the past it refers to "blessing" and "blessing". Both now and in the past, we have placed our yearning for a happy life and a wish for a better future. In order to fully reflect this yearning and wish, the folks simply put the word "Fu" upside down and said that "happiness has fallen" and "blessing has arrived." There is still a legend about the word "Fu" in the folk. In the same year, Zhu Yuanzhang of Ming Taizu used the word "Fu" as the secret code to prepare to kill. In order to eliminate this scourge, the kind-hearted Ma Queen must make a "Fu" word on the door of the house before the dawn of the city. The Queen’s will is naturally no one dares to defy, so the word “Fu” is posted on the door of the house. Among them, some households were illiterate and actually put the word "Fu" down. The next day, the emperor sent people to the streets to check and found that the family had posted the word "Fu", and another one posted the word "Fu". The emperor listened to the anger of the newspaper and immediately ordered the Yulin army to copy the door. When the Queen looked at things badly, he said to Zhu Yuanzhang: "The family knows that you are visiting today and deliberately posted the blessings. Isn't this the meaning of 'Fuzhi'?" The emperor ordered it when he heard it. Let go, a big disaster has finally been eliminated. From then on, people will put the blessings upside down, one for Geely, and the other for the Queen of Ma.

During the Spring Festival, people in many areas like to put a variety of paper-cuts on the windows - window grilles. The window grille not only embodies the festive atmosphere, but also brings beautiful enjoyment to people, integrating decoration, appreciation and practicality.

Paper-cutting is a very popular folk art. It has been loved by people for thousands of years. Because it is mostly attached to windows, people generally call it "window." The window grille is rich in content and has a wide range of subjects. Because the purchasers of window grilles are mostly farmers, window grilles have considerable content to show farmers' lives, such as farming, textiles, fishing, sheep, pigs, and chickens. In addition, window flowers and other myths and legends, drama stories and other topics. In addition, flowers, birds, worms and zodiac signs are also very common.

Chinese folks have a "open firecracker". The first thing in the New Year is to set off firecrackers to welcome the old ones.

Firecrackers are Chinese specialties, and their origins are very early. They have a history of more than 2,000 years. Nowadays, most people think that firecrackers can create a festive atmosphere, a kind of entertainment for the festival, which can bring joy and auspiciousness to people.

We still have a legend:

Once upon a time, there was a monster named Year, which had a long horn on its head and was very powerful. Usually, the beast will climb out from under the sea and eat cattle, sheep, chickens and people.

Once, the common people knew that the beasts were coming, and they were all afraid of "years" to hurt them and then went into the mountains with animals to escape. At this time, a white-bearded grandfather came, and an old woman advised the white-bearded grandfather to hide. The white-bearded grandfather said very often that I live here, not afraid of the beasts of the year, only the beasts of the year are afraid of me.

The old woman and the people in the village went to the mountains, and only the white-bearded grandfather stayed at the old woman's house. In the evening, the beast entered the village, and the first one went to the old woman's house. It saw the old lady's door with red paper on her door, and the body shook. The year's beast screamed and ran into the yard with anger. At this time, the sound of "嘭嘭啪啪" sounded in the yard, and there was fire. The beast shakes even more. It turns out that the beast is most afraid of red, noise and fire. When the beast had just entered the yard, the door of the house opened. The white-bearded grandfather walked slowly out of the house in red, laughing at the young beast. When the beast saw it, he turned and fled. The white-bearded grandfather went to chase the beast and kept chasing the sea. The beast hides into the sea. Never dare to come out again.

The next day, the old woman and the people in the village came back and saw that the door of every household was covered with red paper, and there was a bamboo burning in the yard.

Since then, everyone has learned a good way to get rid of the Year of the Beast. When the Spring Festival is approaching, red couplets, red window flowers, and red blessings will be posted at the door, and firecrackers and fireworks will be released.

On New Year's Day, we are going to New Year's Eve. The original meaning of the word "Happy New Year" is to celebrate the New Year for the elderly. On the morning of the first day, the younger generation must first pay tribute to the elders. The age of the year has the meaning of "compressed", so after the elders are worshipped, they will distribute the "old money" prepared in advance to the younger generation. And the younger generation gets the lucky money to spend a year safely. When people meet out, they must also talk about auspicious words such as "Gong Xi Fa Cai" and "Happy New Year".

Folklore is the birthday of the God of Wealth on the fifth day of the first month of the month. Each family has a banquet for the god of wealth. Regarding the God of Wealth, there are many legends in the folk: the Song Dynasty Cai Jing is rich, folk legends, he is born of the rich god, he was born in the fifth day of the first month, so the folks used him as a god of wealth to sacrifice. After Cai Jing was desecrated, the folks changed the God of Wealth. At that time, the name of the Song Dynasty was Zhao, and the Xuan character was an integral part of the word "岚", which gave the god of wealth a name of Zhao Xuantan to worship.

In the fifth day of the Fortune God, Zhao Xuantan was most respected. In addition to Zhao Xuantan being respected as "Zheng Cai Shen", the folks also have the saying that "the god of wealth" is the five gods of wealth, "the god of wealth", the star of wealth, and the "Wu Caishen" Guan Shengdi. The belief in the Five Fortunes is popular in the Dexing area of Jiangxi. There are five Hindu Temples outside the Anding Gate in Beijing. "Wen Cai Shen" is a wealthy star, also known as "Zengfu Fortune God". His paintings are often listed together with "Fu", "Lu", "Shou" Samsung and Xishen, and together they are Fu, Lu, Shou, Finance, joy. Cai Xingjun's face is white and long, holding a treasure pot, and the words "Lucky Treasures" come from this.

In fact, there are many customs in our Spring Festival, it is worth to understand it, and to inherit it, not to make it a memory. Only when you have a sweet life with your family can you understand each other, communicate with each other, and get happiness from it. So on the occasion of Chinese New Year, let's go home and have a look, don't miss the chance to reunite with your family again!
