After reading Camel Xiangzi

In the late 1920s, Peiping, war, oppression, money, rickshaws...

All these words are merged together into two words - Xiangzi. Camel Xiangzi.

A young farmer from the countryside, Xiangzi, puts aside the home where he is empty, and comes to the city to eat and use every day. He is desperately pulling the car he has, and it’s just day and night. Spend money to buy a car of your own. In the three years of Xiangzi's efforts, he has his own car, he can no longer be tempted by the owner of the car, he can think how to pull it! The days that can be enjoyed are not long. The Beiping crisis in the war is soaring. The Xiangzi who is pulling the car is inexplicably caught by the chaos of the warlords. All these difficulties can be tolerated, but the most painful and angry is The only sustenance in his life - the new car that was exchanged for three years of hard work and sweat was taken away. Xiangzi went through all the hardships and fled back to Beiping. In the "Renhe Depot", he suppressed the grief and pain of the fullness and continued to pull the car. After many hardships, when he finally found a relatively stable work for a monthly car in a peaceful and kind person, he was squeezed by the reactionary government’s detective in the name of “buy life” because the employer was targeted by the agent. He only had a little savings and lost his stable job. In the face of these heavy blows, he still proudly raised his head. He is a young and energetic, tall and strong Xiangzi! How can it be so easily beaten down by difficulties? He refused to give in. He wants to use his own strength, his own blood, his own sweat to earn money for himself and his wife, Hu Niu! Hu Niu bought a car for Xiangzi at a low price, but thought that she would return to the former Xiangzi but had to sell the car because of the funeral of Hu Niu.

Xiangzi is a kind-hearted but very strong and willing person. He does not want to listen to the high mother's words and put on loan sharks. He does not want to covet the 60 cars of the owner Liu Siye. He does not want to listen to Hu Niu's words to do small business because he I think that "with your own car, you have everything." What he dreams of is to seek an independent life with his own labor. He doesn't drink alcohol, doesn't smoke, doesn't get a little bit of bad habits, but God still has no pity for this poor honest man. After reading "Camel Xiangzi", I have a feeling of unfinished feelings. I really don't want this novel to end, and I feel like I want to continue watching. Lao She wrote this novel, which is very fascinating, can lead people to be holy, and be alert to future generations.

When I saw "Camel Xiangzi", I was in Beijing in the late 20th century. There are two other feelings when I look at this novel.

For example: novels, novella, short stories, translated novels, martial arts novels, realistic novels, etc. But it is how to see and not see the modern novels written by modern Chinese novelists. For example: Lao She, Lu Xun, Ba Jin... and so on.

The novels written by modern Chinese novelists are based on the society at that time, and most of them are written by the government, the weak of the people, the problems of the society, and so on. When I did not read "Camel Xiangzi", I felt that what they wrote was very incompatible with the thoughts of the young people of my generation. However, after reading the "Camel Xiangzi" written by Lao She, I have changed my modern novels and I have seen two profound reflections.

Second, Lao She's writing is very sophisticated. When I saw it, I really felt the bitterness of the lower class. The people of the lower class in Beijing in the late 1920s and the citizens of the lower class in Hong Kong are also similar. Some of them have difficulties in their daily expenses. They have no chance to change their situation and get rid of poverty.

From now on I will look farther and see more different kinds of books. The most important thing is to look at modern literary novels.
