Don't let the label kidnap yourself
When I was young, I only took a few English exams. Did my parents or teachers say that you have no talent in language? Do you agree with them and think that you are not learning English? Have you ever passed the English homework?
Maybe, you just love to say a few laughs without a heart, do people around you evaluate you as a "humor"? And whether you agree with their evaluation, in every chat in the future, deliberately find yourself The opportunity of "humor" side, but from time to time will also accidentally play, and the atmosphere is very embarrassing?
"No language talent" or "humor", these people label us, it seems that they have made a responsible evaluation after understanding the situation, but in fact it is a kind of unwillingness to understand in depth A spirit of sorting is lazy. But what's worse is that if we agree with the "tags" that others have posted for a while, the intention to maintain the positive "tags" to bring themselves to the image, and the negative "tags" also adopt a negative recognition attitude, then our growth will be Very unfavorable thing.
When I was in the middle of the country, maybe it was a factor of some talent. My English scores have always been at the top of the grade, but the math scores are often terrible. Parents, class guides, all said that this child has a language talent, suitable for reading liberal arts, science can only be said to be so-so. Under the influence of these "tags", I also began to think that I really have language talents. I don't need to spend too much time in English learning. Since it is not suitable for science, then mathematics and physics can be dealt with. When I was in high school, I was assigned to the experimental class, and there were many excellent and hard-working classmates. Here, my English talent is harder than others' efforts, and my mathematics is even worse. I am confused. Isn't talent more important than hard work? Why do talents lose to hard work? For a long time, I have escaped to think about these problems and ruin the best time on Internet cafes. But after the second year of high school, I began to deliberately go to the math, and spent more time in English to learn. The results of both homework were ranked in the forefront.
These changes involve two modes of thinking. In Josh Witzkin's "The Way of Learning," these two modes of thinking are called "whole theory" and "gradual theory." People who hold the "holistic theory" tend to think that they are smart and talented in a certain way, and believe that their achievements in this area must be attributed to this innate ability, and this ability is A fixed, "integral" that cannot be changed. Those who adopt "gradual theory" are more inclined to think that their current achievements depend on unremitting efforts and believe that step-by-step efforts can make themselves better. In the face of challenges, “gradual theory” is more likely to meet the challenge and link future success with the current hard work; “the whole theory” is easy to feel restless and simple “smart”, “Stupid” or “good” or “bad” to evaluate themselves tends to adopt “helpless response”.
For the "whole theory", their evaluation of themselves is nothing more than a "tag" that others have intentionally or unintentionally put them on their own identity. When I was in the middle of the country, I agreed with the "label" that my parents and teachers posted to me, and adopted the "holistic theory" thinking mode. In the English aspect, I think that I am "born with my own materials". I don't need to work too hard. I believe in mathematics. It’s not the piece of material. It’s useless to work hard, so the spirit of laziness when others posted “tags” turned into being physically lazy on the road of learning. When I was promoted to high school, in the face of truly excellent and hard-working people, the so-called "talent" was simply unable to withstand a blow. I began to escape from reality like most "whole theories". Fortunately, after I lost it, I tried to work hard and inadvertently became a "gradual theory" person, and finally achieved good results by hard work.
However, what I want to discuss is neither the hard work nor the talent, nor the effort to get the desired result, but the "tags" in the process of our growth. The positive label is certainly a certainty, but if we enjoy the label and bring it to ourselves, and deliberately look for opportunities in life to prove the correctness of these labels, then we will be kidnapped by the label itself. What is desperate to maintain the image that the label has set for itself, or one day is defeated by factors outside the label. Similarly, once we agree with the negative label, we can hardly grow in one aspect, and it is easier to give up in the face of failure in life, and become increasingly depressed in depression.
For example, some of the students I saw when I was studying, their grades are often average, they will envy the students with good grades, and they think that these students are "naturally smart", so they can achieve excellent results without much effort. And my aunt gave her a "hidden dull" brain, and she clearly did not see any improvement in her performance when she "worked hard", so she would further deny herself and treat her with a negative attitude. There are many people in life who use the "natural theory" to judge others and themselves. We must be careful about the labels they give us. Of course, we must be careful about the labels we put ourselves.
In the face of solidified labels, each of us should be aware that we are an individual who can grow up. Even if it is a "genius," it is inseparable from 99% of the sweat. The truth of diligence should also be Incorporate into the blood of every "stupid". The real winner, not the "genius" that has been labeled as one or two achievements, is to dare to tear down the label regardless of success, and pursue each and better one in constant efforts and reflections.
