Comrade Xiao San’s memorial service


At 9:55 on February 4, 1983, Comrade Xiao San, an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, resigned. Our party has lost an older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, an outstanding proletarian cultural warrior, an internationally renowned poet, one for the Chinese revolution and the world revolution, for defending world peace and for promoting the friendship and cultural exchanges between peoples. Actively contributing political activists and international activists. At this moment, our mood is very heavy and sad. Comrade Xiao San was born on October 10, 1896 in Xiaojiachong, Xiangxiang County, Hunan Province. In his youth, he and Comrade Mao Zedong were in Dongshan Elementary School in Xiangxiang County, and later went to study in Changsha Hunan First Normal School. Together with Mao Zedong and Cai Hesen, he created the "Xinmin Society" and wrote for the "Xiangjiang Review" sponsored by Comrade Mao Zedong. Since then, he has participated in the "May 4th" movement. In 1920, together with Zhao Shiyan, he went to France to work and study. During the Fa Conference, he participated in the organization of the "Engineering World Society" with the purpose of "implementing the social revolution, transforming China and the world", and joined the "Juvenile Communist Party" organized by Zhao Shiyan and Zhou Enlai. In 1922, he was introduced by the Comrade Ho Chi Minh and Wang Ruofei and other five comrades to the French Communist Party. In the same year, he was transferred to the Communist Party of China to assist Chen Qiaonian and Deng Xiaoping, the comrades in the publication of the journal Juvenile, to study at the Moscow Oriental Labor Communism University in 1923. In January 1924, with Ren Bishi, the Moscow branch of the Chinese Communist Party participated in the funeral and protection of Lenin. In the same summer, I returned to China. He once served as secretary of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, member of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, secretary of the Northern Committee of the Communist Youth League, secretary of the CPC Zhangjiakou District Committee, and minister of the Central Organization Department of the Communist Youth League and acting secretary. In 1927, he participated in the preparation and organization of the three armed uprisings of Shanghai workers. He attended the Fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of China in the same year and attended the Seventh National Congress of the Party in 1945. After the national liberation, he attended the First, Second and Fifth National People's Political Consultative Conferences and the First and Second National People's Congresses and was elected as the Standing Committee of the Fifth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Comrade Xiao San made important contributions to the struggle of the Chinese proletarian literature and art movement and the people of all countries in the world and the cause of cultural exchanges. As early as 1928, he began his literary activities during his teaching at the Oriental University in Moscow. In 1930, he was the Permanent Representative of the Chinese Left-wing Writer, attended the International Revolutionary Writers Conference held in Kharkov, the Soviet Union, and edited the Chinese version of the journal World Revolutionary Literature. In 1934, he attended the first representative meeting of Soviet writers, met with Gorky, and spoke on behalf of the Chinese Left-wing Writers Union. He was approved by our party organization to participate in the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and served as a member of the Party Committee of the two Soviet Writers Association. During the Soviet Union, he maintained close communication with Lu Xun and introduced the Chinese Workers and Peasants Red Army, the Agrarian Revolution and its leaders to the world through literary and artistic works. He wrote a biography of Mao Zedong and Zhu De and wrote a large number of poems. Prose and some novels, reportages and other works have been translated into Russian, Bulgarian, English, German, French, Western, Japanese, Czech and other languages, which have had a wide international influence. Comrade Xiao San’s works are full of high patriotism and internationalism, praising the party and party leaders, exposing the Kuomintang reactionaries, and reflecting the revolutionary struggle of the people at home and abroad. He insisted on the revolutionary, combative and popular nature of literature and art, and strived to integrate literature and revolution with flesh and blood. His book "Comrade Mao Zedong's Youth Age" has been widely circulated among the Chinese people and has also received the attention and welcome of foreign readers. He edited the "Revolutionary Martyrs Poetry" and its sequel, and became a valuable teaching material for revolutionary traditions, revolutionary ideals and revolutionary sentiment education. He insisted on the direction of nationalization and popularization of poetry, tried to explore the path of revolutionary literature and art, actively publicized and practiced Mao Zedong's literary thoughts, and devoted his lifelong hard work to the growth and prosperity of Chinese new literature and new poetry. His main collections of poems include: "Song of Peace", "Road of Friendship", "Selection of Xiao San's Poetry", "Fuxi Collection", Russian Poetry Collection "Xiang Di Ji", "Our Destiny Is Such", " Emmy Xiao Shiji, "Xiao Sanshi Poetry" and so on. Comrade Xiao San is a famous literary translator and one of the leading translators of the widely circulated "International Song" lyrics. In order to closely cooperate with the needs of the revolutionary struggle, he translated the scripts "Professor Mamen", "New Trojan", "Glory" and the extensively influenced script "The Frontline" and "Lenin's Thesis and Art" and other famous works. Comrade Xiao San’s contribution to China’s literary movement is multifaceted. He has long held various leadership positions in the literary and art circles and has done a lot of work. After returning to Yan'an in the spring of 1939, he served as director of the Compilation Department of Lu Xun Art College, member of the Standing Committee of Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region and Yan'an Cultural Association, director of the Cultural Club, member of the CPC Central Committee Propaganda Department, and editor of "Public Literature and Art", "China Herald" and "New Magazines such as Poetry. In 1946, he served as director of the North China Cultural Association. After the national liberation, he served as a member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, a secretary of the Chinese Writers Association, a director of the Foreign Literature Committee of the Writers Association, and a vice president of the International PEN Center. He has made unremitting efforts for the development of Chinese literature. Comrade Xiao San is also a famous international cultural activist and a warrior defending world peace. He served as Director of the Foreign Cultural Liaison Bureau of the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China, Executive Director of the Chinese People's Association for Foreign Culture, Member of the Chinese People's Defence World Peace Committee, Deputy Director General of the China-Soviet Friendship Association, Executive Director of the World Peace Council and Secretary of the Secretariat of China. And worked in the Secretariat for two years. As a famous cultural warrior and peace ambassador of the Chinese people, he has traveled all over the world all the year round, attended previous World Peace Conferences, visited many countries, and attended the Asian-African Writers Conference twice. Participated in the Asia-Pacific Regional Peace Conference and made a useful contribution to safeguarding peace in Asia and the world. Comrade Xiao San has consistently adhered to Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, and persisted in socialism. He always strictly demands himself as a standard of ordinary party members, respects organizations, and cares for the people. In 1962, he paid the entire editing fee of the "Revolutionary Martyrs Poetry" edited by himself. In 1981, the entire manuscript of Xiao San's Poetry was donated to the people in the Sichuan disaster area. During the ten years of chaos, Comrade Xiao San was detained and persecuted by Lin Biao, Jiang Qing and Kang Sheng. He was illegally detained for more than seven years. He and the "Gang of Four" and their minions fought face to face, relentlessly exposing and condemning " The Gang of Four and Kang Sheng’s conspiracy activities. After regaining his freedom, although he is 80 years old, he is weak and sick, but he has always worked hard with the spirit of old man and he has tried his best to participate in various social activities. In his later years, he wrote a lot of revolutionary memoirs and poems. He finished the last journey of his life in hard work and stubborn struggle with disease. During the critical period, he also seriously studied the party's 12 major archives, saying that he fully supported the party's line of policy and the resolution of the Twelfth National Congress since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee. He never forgets the unfinished business. On December 4 last year, he dictated a letter to Comrade Hu Yaobang, once again expressing the infinite loyalty of the old revolutionary to the party. He wrote, "...I am infinitely grateful and infinitely ambiguous: I have not done anything for the party. My poetry anthology, especially the diary since Yan'an, has no clue. When I was on the eve, I never thought of dying. When I started waking up, the first thing that I thought of was this piece of information. I must contribute it to the party and I must not 'take it away.' I fight for the disease and stick to my vow: life is endless. The battle is not limited... I have spare time, and I have memories, and I will help me once again: I will form a team of several people to speed up the completion of the above-mentioned materials. Once this is over, I will die." Comrade Hu Yaobang quickly approved him. The request and conveyed his ardent hope and concern to Comrade Xiao San. Comrade Xiao San is a loyal son of the Chinese people and our party. He is a loyal friend of the progressive humanity of the world. He has worked hard for the revolutionary cause of the Chinese people and the cause of human progress, and he has dedicated everything he has. We must learn from his tenacious spirit of the enemy's struggle, the meticulous work style, the noble qualities of loving the people, and the lofty spirit of self-discipline. Comrade Xiao San is always an example for us to learn! Comrade Xiao San and us are farewell! We must turn grief into strength. Under the encouragement of the Twelfth National Spirit, we will build China into a highly democratic and highly civilized modern socialist country, create a new situation for China’s socialist literature, and promote cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. Develop a friendly cause with the people of all countries and defend world peace, and work hard!
