Yu Minhong's inspirational speech: tempering leadership

I believe that as the leader, the most important thing is to have three kinds of elements: first, the mind is broader; second, the strategic vision is relatively large, the judgment is more accurate; third, there is personal charm, words and deeds can be convincing.
I think I have two big traits: the first is that I can get along with others in particular. I am equal to employees, teachers, and students. My management dared to criticize me at the meeting, and once I made me feel uncomfortable, I can bear it. Of course, this does not mean that I have no leadership authority. The second is to encounter problems, such as when there is a conflict of interest, I am more tolerant, and can give myself enough time to calm down and then deal with the problem. I am not doing extreme things, and speaking is not extreme, so there is a lot of room left. Because as a leader, there is no defense behind me. I am the last line of defense. If I and others tear the skin, they can leave, I can't go; they can break the can, I can't. Therefore, I must learn to deal with the problem in this way.
People who do things well are not necessarily leaders; but those who have leadership must be good people. Anyone who has problems with people will definitely have problems in the end. For example, mad people, extreme people, people who do not abide by social conventions, or who do not assume social responsibility. You can see that such entrepreneurs have fallen in batches in China. Do you say they have no leadership? They can make a business. But they completely destroyed the company they made. This shows that their leadership is a kind of false leadership, but it is just an chance to get an opportunity to make things happen. Therefore, leadership can also be interpreted as the ability to make a business or organization develop smoothly.
The dark side of human nature is there for everyone, and the root of conflict is fame and fortune. Now I always grasp the principle of doing things: whenever I think that this thing can trigger the evil side of human nature, I will go all out to eliminate it. For example, when New Oriental dismisses its employees, it must give employees enough compensation. This compensation usually exceeds the national regulations. Because if you treat the employees badly, the evil aspects of others will be reflected, and in the end it will lead to a bad result for everyone.
In fact, the development of New Oriental has experienced various interests and struggles. I grasp two things: First, no matter what happens, I can't show the evil side. I also have a sexual side, but fortunately, until now, I have never done evil things. Second, I will not hesitate to sacrifice some of my own interests, but also to prevent the evil side of others from being revealed. This makes me around. The atmosphere is relatively harmonious.
Of course, I also have the so-called "art of struggle." There is a point here, that is, if I know that someone’s "evil" has reached the point where everything is destroyed, I will stop it. But this blocking requires a little method, including how to treat the "little man" around you. You can offend 10,000 "adults", but you can't offend a "little person." Because when you offend a very dark person, there will be quite a lot of very troublesome things. In this process, how do you have a good relationship with someone you think is a "little person"? How to remove him and let him "thank you"? This is a very difficult thing to do. Sometimes, some means and strategies are needed.
My experience made me realize too much. I have experienced the internal struggles of New Oriental, have been robbed, have had a serious illness, and have had anxiety and mania. I have been taking sleeping pills for 5 consecutive years, sometimes I have to eat 4 tablets a day to sleep. But now I have got a lot of results, I see life very well, it doesn't matter if I throw anything away.
Whether it is Christianity or Buddhism, it is the embodiment of goodness. Chinese traditional Confucianism is also a manifestation of goodness in a certain sense. I said to the students: One must be doing something that is good for them, but keep in mind that the minimum standard is to do things that are good for you, but not harmful to others. The high standard is to do things that are good for you and good for others. So what is the standard of sages? That is to do things that are good for others even if you hurt yourself. As time goes by, the benefits of doing so are becoming more apparent, because the sages have left their spirit and life all. Jesus, Shakyamuni, Gandhi, and Mandela, all of them can be classified as sages. I may not be able to achieve the highest level in my life, but at least I must find a way to achieve the second realm. It is to do things that are good for myself, but also beneficial to others.
