There is no "standard answer" for success
There used to be such an examination question, which allowed students to add an adjective in front of “reading books”. The standard answer is “to keep your eyes on it,” but some students write “concentrate and concentrate”. Many people think that it is wrong to "look at the eye", and "concentrate and concentrate" is right. But unfortunately, the standard answer is "to keep your eyes on it."
"There is a common problem in Chinese society, that is, everyone wants to develop according to a model. It is also the standard of unity to measure whether everyone is 'successful': to see achievements in schools and to enter the society to see fame and fortune. The real success should be diversified. Success may be that you have created new wealth or technology. Maybe you have brought happiness to others. Maybe you have gained the trust of others in your job, or you may find a life that is returning to yourself and living in the world. The way everyone succeeds is unique." This view of success is proposed by Li Kaifu in the book "Being the Best of Yourself". By the same token, in the minds of students, is there a standard answer to success? For example: good grades, admitted to a good university, or have money, rights, and status. I think success is a diversified success. Everyone can succeed.
It is not that there must be money, and that right is success. As long as it is in a certain state, it is success. We calmly think about it. Does the parent care about how many points the child can take each time or what kind of university can he take? Is the success of life determined by an exam? Is the happiness of a lifetime determined by the school? I think most people will say "no".
In the view of Teacher Kai-Fu Lee, the success of diversification is divided into many types: it may be that a person has created a new product or technology, and may have obtained breakthrough scientific research results. It may be that a person’s behavior brings happiness to others. A person has the trust of others in his work. It is also possible that a person has found his most satisfying and happy lifestyle, or has gained fame and wealth on his own.
In a sense, I feel that I am unsuccessful. Because I don't really like to be bound by "suit tie" every day, I like to carry my backpack without any restrictions, and use the lens and text to record every moment I see and experience. I hope that I can use the way of travel to measure the land under my feet and feel the world of change. However, travel does not make a living. Under the pressure of livelihood, I accepted a lifestyle that I didn't like very much.
For the work in New Oriental, from another perspective, it is also successful. Because I can get the respect of others through hard work, I can help more people through my work, and affect more than 1,000 teachers and employees through my work. These teachers and employees will influence more children and parents through their own efforts. Sometimes, calm down and think about it, success is a person who can help others, gain respect, and progress a little bit every day.
For children, parents can not only measure the success of the future with test scores, help children establish a correct outlook on life, values, and cultivate a child's spirit of hard work and struggle, and it is more important to cultivate dreams for children.
For young people, playing their strengths and realizing their value is the right attitude to success. From the perspective of diversification success, there are many kinds of criteria for measuring success: it can be a person's status and wealth, it can be creativity and influence, or it can be a person's improvement and progress on the basis of oneself. Either way, the most basic measure should be whether a person's behavior can benefit himself or society, surpass himself, and gain greater happiness.
Being talented does not mean success, the so-called talent is continuous patience. Behind the success, these people are willing to endure loneliness, endure loneliness, endure humiliation, endure poverty, and succeed in doing what they like.
Success is pluralistic and there is no “standard answer”. As long as you follow the goals set by yourself, every day you struggle and progress a little bit, and constantly strive to be a better self is your own success.
