Inspirational article: Persistence, success is not far away
What I am going to say today is a story that I don’t care about. As my friends know, I am a scientific blind person. I don't know anything about science other than psychology, philosophy, and sociology. However, these are all social sciences, not natural sciences. Both of these are irrelevant. But because of my admiration and respect for this scientist, I still want to talk about his story. To start his story, you must start with milk. why? Then you listen to me slowly.
A long time ago, one day early in the morning, on a street in Stiritz, a suburb of Berlin, Germany, a carriage drove past. It was already in the deep winter season, the cold wind blew, and the pain in the cheeks was like a small knife cutting the meat; the horse pulling the car gasped, and the white mist sprayed from the horse's nose.
The people who chased the carriage were in their fifties. For many years, he has been sending fresh milk to the residents of this area. Whether it is spring, summer, autumn or winter, no matter whether it is windy or snowy, it is on time.
People have already become familiar with the milkman, and he is no longer ordinary. Like other ranch operators, he raised many cows and gave milk to residents. But the famous German female painter Fliissa Bano who lives on this street knows that the milkman has a somewhat unusual origin. For several mornings, she waited in the living room. As soon as she heard the sound of the milk carriage, she hurriedly opened the door. Please send the milkman to the house for a short while, but the milkman always gave the milk without delay. Refuse.
Another morning, Bunno rushed out as soon as he heard the hooves. He pulled the sleeve of the milkman and took a sketch of the milkman. The milkman still refused to say it, saying: Many people are waiting for breakfast, milk should be delivered on time, and when the milk is delivered, it must meet your requirements.
The female painter knew in her heart that this was just a way for the milkman to get away. She doesn't want to be fooled anymore. She pulled the sleeve of the milkman and let go, saying: You don't want to "cheat" me anymore. I know that you are a lab fan. When you have finished milk, you will get into the chemistry lab. Anyone wants to pull you out. . You must let me draw a picture this time. Dear Professor, please give me your precious time for a few minutes.
Milkman? Yes, he is still a professor. At this point, I had to stop the milking work and let the female painter draw a sketch of the character.
Early the next morning, when people opened the newspaper, a line of eye-catching titles came into view: "Vanthofer won the first Nobel Prize in Chemistry" and published a sketch of the female painter throughout the layout. People looked at the portrait with surprise. The original person who drove every morning to give milk to everyone was a famous chemist and won the first Nobel Prize! Then everyone was excited and told each other. Finally, Van der Hoff and the chemist Van der Hoff, who sent fresh milk, were merged and became "rancher chemists."
Van der Hoff, who sneaked into the chemistry lab to do experiments, was almost expelled; he liked chemistry and became a well-known chemist.
Jacobi Henrik Fanthof was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on August 30, 1852. His father was a famous doctor in the local area. Van der Hoff is at home, the third of seven children.
When he was in high school, he saw that the various fascinating chemical experiments in the lab were very interesting, so I always wanted to know the mystery. Seeing others do it, it’s too addictive, how good it is to be able to do it yourself.
One day, Van der Hoff walked through the window outside the chemical laboratory, and he couldn't help but glance inside, how tempting the neatly arranged experimental utensils and a bottle of chemical reagents. His feet stopped involuntarily, thinking in his heart: How good is it to be able to go in and do an experiment?
Suddenly, he found a window open, probably for ventilation during the experiment. When Little Vanthof hesitated for a moment, he jumped onto the window sill and went to the lab. He set up the iron stand, placed the glassware on it, and began to look for reagents. He was concentrating on the reactions caused by the drugs, and everything was going on smoothly. The joy from the heart made a smile on his face. He said silently: I succeeded and succeeded!
Milkman? Yes, he is still a professor. At this point, I had to stop the milking work and let the female painter draw a sketch of the character for him.

Jacobi Henrik Fanthof was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on August 30, 1852. His father was a famous doctor in the local area. Van der Hoff’s family of seven children ranks third.
The sound of the experiment room caught the attention of the teacher. Who is in the laboratory? The teacher looked out of the window, good guy, where Van der Hoff was doing his experiments. This is too dangerous! Be aware that this is not allowed by the school rules. The teacher did not disturb Vanthof, fearing that he was in danger in panic, he went around the door and opened the door. When he heard the opening of the door, Van der Hoff was awakened from the "Chemical Experiment Dream" and he stood there stunned.
The teacher can no longer be patient, this is an important event. I was anxious to say: Stop the experiment! Who told you to experiment? Fast, quickly put everything in the original place.
The teacher also ordered his own hands as he ordered Vanthof.
When everything was stopped, the teacher called Vanthof to the front and said with a strong heart: Do you know what mistakes you made today? This matter is to report to the principal, it is subject to disciplinary action. Say it is dangerous, your parents have to blame the school. Go home quickly, find your father, I want to tell him about it.
Van der Hoff’s father disagreed with his son’s behavior. Although the starting point was to obtain knowledge, the effect was very bad. It was intolerable in violation of the school’s regulations.
Fortunately, the teacher considered that Vanthof was a student who was diligent and eager to learn and respected the teacher, and did not report to the principal.
From the incident, Van der Hoff’s father learned that his son liked chemistry very much, and he gave up a house from his home as a studio for his son to do chemical experiments.
Since then, Vanthof has started to "run" his own small laboratory. He accumulates pocket money from his parents and “sponsorship” from other relatives and friends to purchase various experimental instruments and medicines, and spend his spare time in his own chemical experiments.
In 1901, the first aura of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry came to the Dutch chemist Vanthof. The chemistry master who has been obsessed with experiments has not only achieved remarkable research results in chemical reaction speed, chemical equilibrium and osmotic pressure, but also created stereochemistry based on organic compounds.
There are naturally many successful revelations on the successful Vanthof. Let us walk into the world of this master and listen to the rhythm of his life, and there may be no small gains.
Persistence is the success of Vanthof.
Van der Hoff is a man of perseverance who can persevere along the path he has chosen.
In 1869, Vanthof graduated from Rotterdam's five-year high school. A very real question before him is what kind of career to choose. Van der Hoff loves chemistry and wants to take chemistry research as his lifelong career. But the father is to let him add more knowledge to support him to do chemical experiments. If he wants to take chemical research as a profession, his father will be difficult to accept. Because choosing chemical research as a career at that time was risky, people who are engaged in chemical research must do other work to maintain their lives. After all, the era in which you live is an iron law! Around this issue, the father and son argued many times, but there was no result.
Under the guidance of the professor, I insisted on studying chemistry and did not relax at all. Due to the efforts of Vanthof, he spent only two years to complete the course that the average person can complete in three years. The last time, my father asked Fanthof with a calm heart: graduated from high school, which school do you plan to attend?
Obviously, choosing a school means choosing a career. He told his father what he said: Learning chemistry is more appropriate for me, Dad, are you right?
However, the father did not let Vanthof choose chemistry, but let him enter the Delft Industrial College in the Netherlands. Although this school specializes in craftsmanship, Oldman, who teaches chemistry, is a very high-level professor. His reasoning is clear and his order is well organized, which is very stimulating students' interest in chemistry. After Van der Hoff in 1871, Vanthof graduated. Since he had the necessary skills to make a living, at this time, he persuaded his parents to start their chemistry research.
For the half-way monk Von Hoff, to lay a good foundation and find the direction of research, you must find a good teacher and learn from the teacher. So, with his dreams, he left his hometown and went to Bonn, Germany, to worship the world-famous organic chemist Fred Kekul. Fred Kekuller is a legendary chemist. He dreams of snakes dancing, end to end, and inspiration comes. So, the structure of the benzene ring is solved according to the dream. Van der Hoff follows Fred Kekul and has been well trained in organic chemistry and laid a solid foundation. Later, he went to Paris, France to consult with medical chemist Wuzi. Under the guidance of Wuzi, Vanthof studied with his friend Le Bell and discussed each other. Later, they became the founders of the new stereochemistry discipline.
Van der Hoff regards chemistry as his ideal habitat. His feet are always running for his own ideals. Sometimes, although there is a divergence, he will eventually return to this path. It is because of the unremitting pursuit of Vanthof, the Nobel Prize will eventually favor him.
Persevere, will be closer to success.
Respect for facts is the rule of the first rule of scientific research is to respect the facts, but not all scientific researchers can abide by this rule. Van der Hoff can melt the facts of respect in his own experimental life. The truth is the god in his heart. Only this god can solve all mysteries. He can succeed because he respects the facts!
In the past, organic structure theory believed that atoms in organic molecules were all in the same plane. This theory is contradictory to many phenomena, and many phenomena cannot be reasonably explained. Through many elaborate experiments, Van der Hoff first proposed the tetrahedral structure of carbon and competed with the old theory of organic structure.
Later facts prove that Vanthof's theory is correct. His theory of molecular three-dimensional structure corrects the mistakes of the past and makes humanity's understanding of the material structure a big step forward.
However, this new theory was opposed by some authoritative figures at the time, and German organic chemist Harman Kirby was one of them. The old scientist is a little bit reliant on the old and old, and is very repulsive to the new theory. He did not seriously study Vanthof's tetrahedral theory, and he wrote an article without any basis to blame Van der Hoff. Not only that, he is not far away, from Germany to the Netherlands, to see up with Vanthof.
When Kirby rushed into Vanthof's office, Van der Hoff had been waiting for him respectfully, and Fanthof believed that he had enough factual evidence to convince the old man of his theory. . After Kirby's temperament subsided slightly, Vanthofer calmly stated his views to him, and the arguments were clear and powerful. After Van der Hoff finished, he sincerely asked Kirby to use his facts to criticize his theory.
The veteran authoritative expert secretly stunned. The young man should not be underestimated. When he talks about the point of view, it is reasonable. When providing arguments, it is rigorous and rigorous. At this point, Kirby was completely convinced, and the anger was completely gone when he first came. He also invited Vanthof to work at the Prussian Academy of Sciences.
Van der Hoff is a pragmatic attitude that allows people to accept his theory with conviction. He always looks at the facts, there is only one thing in his vision.
March 1, 1911, but who can expect that the 59-year-old Vanthof died of long-term overload work. A scientific superstar has fallen, and the chemical industry is shocked. In order to commemorate him forever, after the cremation of Vanthof's body, people placed his ashes in the cemetery of Berlin's Dalem for future generations to pay tribute.
Such a good scientist has fallen like this. what a shame. As a scientific blind person, the biggest revelation from me is two words: persistence, as long as it persists, success must be not far away. This is the truth I believe in and the personal principle that I will never change.
