The latest issue of "Reader" has a short essay titled "The Meaning of Obedience". I told a small story that I was very touched. The story is excerpted as follows:
On June 27, 1976, the Palestinian guerrillas hijacked a large French Airways aircraft and detained 105 Israelis on board the terminal at Entebbe Airport in Uganda. Unfortunately, they have no chance to obey the instructions. The third hostage was also a man. After hearing the soldier’s "sleep down" command, he did not hesitate to obey the instructions, but after he saw the Israeli soldiers rushing into the hall, he forgot the sentence. "Don't move on the ground!" The command, excitedly stood up, ready to rush to their own soldiers, hug them, and the soldiers were shot as enemies hidden in the hostages.
General Barton once said: "Submission is not only a virtue, but also a responsibility. If you do not know how to obey, or discounted to obey, not only will damage the interests of the team, but even become potential killers or suicides. ”
In this story, the meaning of obedience is self-evident, and the price will be life. There are also examples of such things in real life, such as drunk driving, the consequences may be murder or suicide. Like the law, the consequences of disobedience will lose freedom or money, and those who lose it will be life.
When referring to the word "obedience", we first think of the army. The army uses iron discipline to strengthen the soldier's obedience. The army needs absolute obedience without thinking, so that there will be a high degree of consistency and lightning. Action force. For ordinary people, when it comes to the word "obey", people often think of "weakness." In fact, this concept is really wrong. As an ordinary person, we do not need to obey absolutely, but each of us has something that must be obeyed, such as law and basic moral principles. Each of us cannot be completely independent, a member of society, and a member of many teams. Obedience is of great significance to a team. A good team and a good team member should have a good sense of obedience. Obedience is a manifestation of good execution, allowing individuals to abandon their own doctrine, based on the overall situation, with the interests of the team as the most important.
The degree of civilization of a society is actually determined by the degree of compliance with laws and regulations and basic moral standards. The degree of civilization of our people is often criticized by outsiders. We do not lack rules and regulations. On the contrary, we often have very perfect systems and provisions. What we lack is the intensity of implementation. The result is the lack of obedience.
