Don't be afraid of life, start from scratch

The newly promoted Viacom Asia executive vice president said frankly that his motivation to go abroad 20 years ago was very emotional, that is, he wanted to travel around the world. In the past 20 years, studying abroad, working in the United States, returning to China to start a business, and continuing to today's position, she believes that the period is full of chances and opportunities: every experience is like a pearl, no matter how wonderful or bleak, as long as it is diligent and persistent, String out the beauty of life.
When I was in high school, I wanted to be a female ambassador. I was admitted to the Diplomatic Academy and I thought about the work of the United Nations. This must go out first and then realize the wish. In the second year of my sophomore year, I was prepared to study at my own expense. Although the school thought it was impossible, I still took the TOEFL score of more than 640 points and applied for a scholarship. In 1985, I became the first person in the school to step out of the country. Later, I knew very well that all these extraordinary efforts were because I thought that others could not say NO to me. As long as the world did not say NO, I could have a chance to fight for it.
When I went to the United States, I was the only one on the flight that was crying until the plane landed. The boyfriend broke up, and the parents were separated. The body was only 50 dollars. The two boxes were bigger than me. What is more important is that no one can predict that China can develop to this day. The fear in my heart is that it is rare to see my parents again in this life. Arriving in the United States at three o'clock in the middle of the night, I sat in the denim bar for one night, where I warned myself that I came for the ideal, and I must treat it as happiness every time afterwards.
In fact, the experience of the early years has greatly exercised and shaped my character. I remember practicing martial arts when I was a child. I often greeted the workers and peasants in the martial arts team. We drove the tanks during the performance of the Army and the MiG-21 during the performance of the Air Force. So small ages have experienced life that others can't experience, and my courage is getting bigger and bigger. So today I often say that there are many smart people and too few people who are daring. I am a small and daring person.
After graduating from Baylor University in Texas in 1987, I entered the United Nations Headquarters and worked in the Public Information Department to produce the television broadcast "United Nations Calls Asia" and served as the anchor. Three years later, he was also responsible for conducting China business at the New York City Professional Law Firm, representing Chinese clients in lobbying for MFN and trade policies.
This life is comfortable and relaxing, the most important thing is to meet my husband, Wang Chaoyong at Standard & Poor's. After marriage, we often travel to the United States by car, or chat with friends Tan Dun and Cui Jian at the cafe in Little Italy. But we all know in our hearts that this is not our last choice.
When the opportunity came in 1993, Wang Chaoyong was sent back to China by Morgan Stanley, responsible for the Chinese company's stock financing business. I am back, and my career starts from scratch. I remember very clearly that in 1994, I was interviewed by Bo Lijia in the United States, and from the managerial position, in the case of public relations, no experience in the domestic market, began to work hard. However, the development speed is very fast, and he was promoted to the position of managing director three years later.
During this period, I mainly planned the strategy of entering the market for well-known multinational companies such as BP, Intel and Philip Morris. My curiosity and ability to learn allowed me to steal from the client to the key knowledge of many industries. For example, after Viacom's operation of the media industry, I benefited a lot from the then news company Murdoch's news group.
At this time, Viacom, who was looking to open the Chinese market, noticed me and tried to dig me over. At that time, I was hesitant. Wang Chaoyong encouraged me over and over again, saying that the media is a sunrise industry, and that Viacom is an opportunity to surpass himself. It seems that this is a good choice.
But it was really difficult at first. At the time, Viacom had only one office in COFCO Plaza in China, with only six employees. The most disturbing thing is that the world media giant does not know Viacom in the Chinese market, and some even regard us as a pharmaceutical factory that produces yeast tablets.
However, I am used to starting from scratch. After Viacom was in charge of MTV in April 1999, it was approved by CCTV-MTV Music Festival one month later. The brand of MTV can be connected with CCTV, and the improvement of brand influence is obvious. When I called the report, the president of the Asia Pacific region sent a dozen or so voices of excitement from the phone. After that, Viacom successfully co-hosted the CCTV-MTV Music Festival with CCTV for four consecutive years.

MTV is a platform for international cultural exchange through music. I define myself as a part-time cultural counselor who promotes Sino-US cultural exchanges. Our chairman, Lei Shidong, said that his successful experience in his life is a win-win situation. If any business model is only profitable for one party and the other party is forfeited, it will not last long. So my team and I have been communicating with the Chinese government, the Radio and Television Group and CCTV. What can we give our partners and what kind of needs do they have?
In 2002, Lei Shidong visited China and expressed his willingness to promote the spread of Chinese culture in the United States. I took this initiative to work, and in the case of Viacom China without profit, I applied for $1 million to the headquarters. In 2003, it promoted China’s largest national orchestra--China Broadcasting Orchestra at the Lincoln Center in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington. The performances in the four venues of the concert hall have been a great success.
Whether it is career or life, I am never lazy. You can say that I am not perfect enough, but you can't say that I didn't try my best. If you don't try, chances are zero; if you work hard, you have a 50% chance of success. Life is made up of every day, every event, every crisis, and the performance of every sale. If you are jealous of small things, then you must be a blind person in your big things and in your life. I have two advices for international students who have just returned to China and are returning to China. First, they must be down to earth and not afraid to start from scratch. Second, they must return to society and integrate into the real environment. They cannot always isolate themselves into one. Outsiders.
For so many years, I will relax with my sword in my spare time. Sometimes, my lover, Wang Chaoyong, plays the accompaniment like 15 years ago. This situation, just like once he said to the media: This really represents our state of mind, the arrogant rivers and lakes, the chivalrous style, we went from China to the United States to go around, and now we are back to the Chinese shopping malls, In fact, one of the most important spirits in our hearts is the kind of pride of the rivers and lakes.
