In the early morning of December 23, 2002, when people were immersed in a sweet dream, there was a thrilling rescue at sea in the Pearl River.

When the passenger ship "Wutong Mountain" from Shekou to Haikou sailed to the waters near Shangchuan Island, the car cabin caught fire and there was a great danger. There are 37 cars, 406 passengers and crew on board. Once the fire spreads or the fuel tank in the car cabin explodes, the consequences are unimaginable. "The 'Wutongshan' round must evacuate passengers to the Zhuhai waters." Beijing, the Ministry of Communications Maritime Bureau issued an emergency rescue order.

Comrade Zheng Guowei, Communist Party member and director of the Maritime Division of Zhuhai Port, was appointed as the chief commander of the scene.

That night at Zhuhai Harbour Terminal, I couldn’t reach my fingers and there was no suitable ship to go to the waters. Following the flashing fishing fire, Zheng Guowei found a small fishing boat at the seaside. In the dark, windy, high waves, and rushing, the fishing boat did not have the night flight conditions, regardless of personal safety, ventured into the sea, to the interests of the people. Responsible spirit, with the familiarity of the sea and years of sailing experience, it is hard to find the "Wutongshan" round in distress in the night sea.

The passenger ship has been tilted, smoking heavy smoke, and the deck has an unpleasant smell and burning heat waves. The situation is critical! Zheng Guowei jumped onto the tugboat that had arrived at the scene and carried out on-site rescue and command for the ship in distress. He bravely calmed down, commanded the parties, shouted his throat, drenched his clothes, and only had people in his eyes. He did not have himself. Under his command, the rescue units worked closely together and the on-site rescue was tight and orderly. After six hours, all passengers were safely evacuated, and 406 passengers and crew members were unscathed. They wrote a glorious page in the history of Chinese maritime rescue.

When the last batch of passengers completed the safe transfer, I asked Zheng Guowei, when you ventured out to the scene, did you think that you would be swallowed by the sea? In the event of a ship explosion during the implementation of the rescue, have you ever thought that it is difficult for you to survive? If you dispose of it improperly during the rescue process, you have thought about how to bear legal responsibility. In fact, what I want to ask is that in two days, his son will get married. For another three years, he has reached the age of retirement. Is it necessary to take such a big risk? After all, it is an old qualification. If you resign, you can still consider it in the organization. However, Zheng Guowei said: "Which can think of so much, there was only one thought at the time: that is to ensure the safety of life on board the ship at all costs."

What a simple words, how real action, deeply hit my heart. At the crucial moment, I dare to take responsibility. When I am in distress, I dare to dedicate myself. Zheng Guowei is an advanced representative of our maritime team and worthy of the glorious title of Communist Party members.

In fact, in our ranks, there are more than one party member like Zheng Guowei; helping the ship in distress to save lives is more than a "Wutongshan" round. More maritime Communists, with the day-to-day ordinary work, do their best for the party, do their best for the country, do their duty for the people, spread the hard sweat on the waters of more than 6,000 square kilometers in Zhuhai, and practice "three" with silent action.
