Experimental report on seed germination

First, do the experiment

Material tool

40 common seeds.

There are 4 canned lids, 1 small spoon, 8 napkins, 4 labels labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, glue, water.

2. Method step

In the first can, put two napkins, then put 10 mung beans in a small spoon and tighten the cap. Place at room temperature.

In the second can, put two napkins, then put 10 mung beans in a small spoon, sprinkle with a small amount of water, moisten the napkin, and tighten the cap. Place at room temperature.

In the third can, put two napkins, put 10 mung beans in a small spoon, pour in more water, drown the seeds in the water, and then tighten the cap. Place at room temperature.

In the fourth can, put two napkins, put 10 mung beans in a small spoon, sprinkle a small amount of water, moisten the napkin, and tighten the cap. Place in a low temperature environment.

Through observation, I found that the seeds in the tanks No. 1, 3, and 4 did not germinate, and the seeds in the No. 2 tank sprouted.

Second, research

1. Why are the same quality, some of the same varieties of seeds sprout, and some do not?

When a seed germinated, it must first absorb water. Nutrients in the cotyledons or endosperm are transported to the radicle, germ, and hypocotyl. Subsequently, the radicle develops, breaking through the seed coat and forming roots. The hypocotyls are elongated and the germ develops into stems and leaves.

However, seed germination requires a suitable temperature, sufficient air and moisture.

Seed No. 1 did not germinate because it had sufficient air and a suitable temperature but no moisture, so it could not germinate.

Seed No. 2 has the right temperature and sufficient moisture, as well as moisture, so it sprouts.

Seed No. 3 did not germinate because it was completely soaked in water, and there was no oxygen in the water, so it was impossible to germinate.

Seed No. 4 was also not germinated due to lack of suitable temperature.

Third, the discussion results

Through this experiment, I found that the seed germination requires sufficient air, moisture and suitable temperature. Looking closely, I also saw that there are some fine, white root hairs on the germinated plants, in fact they can increase the water absorption rate.

The experiment brought me a lot of fun and I learned a lot from it. Biology is really amazing.
