The Mexican government used the navy to arrest a drug trafficking group leader

In an action in the early hours of the morning, the Western Navy captured Miguel Angel Trevinho Morales, the leader of the Zetas Drug Trafficking Group. This is also the biggest victory for Mexico in combating drug violence since President Peña Nieto took office on December 1, 12 years.

Mexican government spokesman Eduardo Sanchez revealed at a press conference held on the evening of the 15th that the Navy intercepted Trevigno by helicopter at 3:45 am in the New Laredo State on the Mexican-American border. Trucks, Trevigno did not have a crossfire with the navy when they were arrested. In addition, the Navy also captured two Trevigno associates and seized $2 million in cash and some weapons. Sanchez said that Trevigno’s crimes included murder, torture, money laundering and ordering the abduction and killing of 265 immigrants in the northern town of San Fernando.

Former Mexican President Calderon has launched a security policy to combat drug trafficking groups since he took office at the end of 2006. Although the heads of many drug trafficking groups were arrested or killed during his tenure, this also triggered a mad revenge from drug trafficking groups. Since 2007, at least 70,000 people have died from drug violence. The current Mexican president, Peña Nieto, said after his appointment on December 1 that his first priority was to bring the security situation in Mexico back to a smoother level. According to the latest data provided by the Mexican government, the murder rate in Mexico has declined, but violent crimes remain rampant in parts of Mexico. The Mexican security experts said that the arrest of Trevigno was the biggest victory for Mexico in combating drug violence after President Peña took office, but what impact it has on the Zetas drug trafficking group remains to be seen.

Trevigno is 40 years old and is nicknamed "Z-40." In October 2019, after the leader of the Zetas drug trafficking group, Elliberto Lascano, was killed by the Mexican Navy, Trevigno began to take over Zetas. Unlike most drug cartel leaders, Trevigno has no military background. He is mainly engaged in financial and logistical work and helps the drug trafficking group to expand the trafficking of cocaine and ice to the United States and Europe. But this person is extremely advocating violence, which is the main reason why he can become the head of Zetas.

"Zetas" was founded in the late 1990s and consisted of a number of army traitors, initially as the violent vanguard of the "Bay" drug trafficking group. At the beginning of 2019, Zetas and the Gulf Drug Trafficking Group broke off their relationship and established themselves. This paramilitary drug trafficking group has gradually become one of Mexico's most notorious drug trafficking groups.
