Yu Minhong's speech at the Entrepreneur Forum: Faith and Passion

I always believe that life will not be desperate. Regardless of the difficulties, setbacks, and failures, I encourage my students, my employees, and myself to continue to move forward. I always believe that the Chinese poet's index finger is called "believe in the future, love life", always believe in your future, believe that your future will be better than now, believe that your life is no matter how dark, as long as You are still alive and you will shine in the future.

The two words of faith and passion are connected together. Passion is an external manifestation of belief. If there is no belief in the heart, external words and deeds cannot generate passion, so passion is derived from the recognition of one's inner heart. To the enterprise is an recognition of the value system of the enterprise and its contribution to society. In other words, you only have the heart to think that what your business is doing is useful, noble, or at least not damaging to the society. You can show this to yourself, to your employees, and to society. The passion of things. If we find that an entrepreneur is passionate about his or her own business, it is generally not easy to pretend, and it must be fake and not durable. Only the inner self, excited by what you do, is a good combination of faith and passion. Doing things is not just about how much money you can make, how many reputations you can bring, but what you really think is what you do.
Every time I listened to the patriot’s Feng Jun’s speech, I’m very touched by his nationally-speaking remarks, because every word of his life is to hope that he is strong and hopes that his motherland will be strong. I hope his patriot can become a world brand. Therefore, words that are derived from passion must be touched. If you have no confidence in what you are doing, it is impossible to have passion. Entrepreneurs here, whether they are doing business for themselves or for themselves, must first ask if you are doing what you are doing right? Do you believe that what you do is good for society? Do you believe that what you are doing does not bring disaster to the future?
Everyone is doing things, looking for inner support and looking for a heartfelt belief. Even if it is drug trafficking, he believes that he has faith. But whether a belief is true or not is not your own decision, but also the entire community, such as the three or four hundred gentlemen and ladies present here. If we say a belief that most people in the room think it is correct, then this belief may be true.
Drug dealers have their own reasons. They say that human phenomena are always desperate. When they are desperate, they can't find a way out. So if you give some drugs to those who are already desperate for life, at least they can bring them. For a moment of pleasure and hope, do you say that they are wrong with drug trafficking? From his own remarks, you feel like it makes sense. When everyone has despair, when I am desperate, I also have time to take drugs. But while drugs are escaping for a while, they bring human society to disaster and demise.

The opium around 1840 can be seen clearly from the damage caused to our Chinese people. Under this premise, opium and drugs have no use for people's lives. They are not judged by drug traffickers. They are the people's finalists, and we have the final say in our society. Therefore, when many entrepreneurs feel that they are doing things for their convictions, the beliefs that may actually persist are false and false beliefs. Many people do things and only see the good things, but they don't think about the problems that may arise behind them. For example, if the paper mill only sees the benefits of the paper produced for human beings, and does not see the environmental pollution and forest destruction caused by papermaking, it will inevitably outweigh the benefits. Only when we think about the cause and effect of one thing, can you hold on to the belief, and you can do well in the enterprise, and you can do it well.
I used to ask myself, whether I am doing such a New Oriental has no benefit to society. For example, what everyone thinks is a good thing, after ten, twenty, thirty, fifty, one hundred years, is it still not? Good thing. New Oriental now sends thousands of students to study abroad every year, encouraging students to return to China to start businesses. Millions of students have improved their English level in New Oriental training. New Oriental has also brought itself to the New York Stock Exchange to be listed in the United States. 300 million US dollars, come back to further education. All of this is a good thing in my opinion. I feel that New Oriental has promoted the progress of Chinese education and promoted the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures. But frankly, I am also asking inside, is it a good thing after 50 years? That is to say, after 50 years, New Oriental is now exerting influence on millions of high school students and college students. Can you guarantee that it is a good thing? Can you guarantee that students who come to New Oriental will increase their happiness index? I really can't guarantee it. So sometimes I have doubts about my beliefs, and what I am doing is not a good thing. But at least from the social evaluation system, the feedback from the students and the feedback from the students, I have the courage to do this thing, why? Because of feedback from all these people, 8% and 90% of the information is positive, and I feel that I am doing a good thing. That is to say, beliefs sometimes cannot be supported by their own inner strength. They must also seek such support points from the outside world and find support points from other people's evaluations and eyes.
Sometimes, for a company, belief is a very difficult thing, because companies must be profitable while maintaining social values. But it will be much easier for an individual, because the individual's beliefs are relatively simple, and it is easier to be firmer. For example, my personal beliefs are better. First of all, I always believe that life will not be desperate. "When the spider web seals up your stove, when the ash of ash sighs the sorrow of poverty, I still stubbornly pave the disappointing ashes, write on the beautiful snowflake: believe in the future", that is, no matter what kind of State, believe in yourself. At the same time, I still have a belief. I believe that the essence of human beings is good, so as long as you do good things, you can touch people's kindness and you will be rewarded with goodness. For me, I must hold the attitude of not doubting people, to appreciate the good people and good things around me, and to strive to turn myself into a good person and to do good things. This is my own belief.
Therefore, for individuals, it is easier to adhere to beliefs than to insist on beliefs. I found that there is such a contradictory state. There are many entrepreneurs or people who do things. In the case that their beliefs are relatively complete, the company they do is not in line with his beliefs. In many cases, it is because of doing business. The temptation of interest, fame, and status has surpassed his beliefs, overwhelmed his beliefs, and defeated conscience. When a person does not follow his inner beliefs and conscience for fame and fortune, the belief becomes worthless.
Sometimes I often ask myself, is my belief in consistency consistent with what I am doing? Fortunately, I think I am more consistent. When New Oriental went public, I changed from being penniless to a billionaire overnight. I was not excited about this money. The New Oriental is getting bigger and bigger, and I am not excited about my reputation. Whether it is rich or famous, it does not affect my view of life. I think that two things in my past life have brought me benefits: First, I was born in the countryside from a young age, I suffered from 1 to 18 years old, and I have never known how to live a life. Second, I got tuberculosis in college. From then on, I learned the fragility of life and the meaning of existence. So now I get these fame and fortune things, I have always regarded them as temporary phenomena, and today I may go tomorrow, don't care too much. I have a very good group of friends at the university. When we are arguing with each other, we never look at each other. These friends are still by my side, still ruining me every day, insulting me, satirizing me, these friends The benefits make me deeply aware of myself, no matter what you are, in fact, you are a biped walking on the earth. Make these things clear, go back and use the wealth and reputation you have, and do better things according to your own beliefs. Maybe you can find a good home for the reputation of wealth. Wealth and fame are taken from society and used in society. You will never make too many mistakes.
One of the suggestions I would like to all of you here is that if you really can't find your faith, you can't find a belief in the business you are doing and what you are doing, then you should look for faith. I have an explanation for beliefs and beliefs. What is faith? When your heart is not strong enough, just like when you are on the bus, there is no support. If the car shakes, you will fall. The society is like a bus. It is always shaking. You must make it not to fall. Grab the handrail, this is the faith. Whether you believe in Buddhism or Christianity, you are determined to be based on society and to be strong. Faith comes from a kind of inner strength. When you have enough beliefs in your heart, you don't necessarily need external beliefs. I have no faith, but I like religion. Whether it is Buddhism, Christianity or Islam, I read it. I also believe that all religions pursue a state of perfection. I believe that a person's state of achieving perfection is not only through a religious approach, I believe that through the pursuit of self-improvement can also achieve a state of perfection, this state needs your inner firm belief to achieve. Faith makes you not fall in a shaking bus, or you can fall up when you fall. If a person has faith, just like two hands and two feet are on the ground, you are not easy to fall.
