Yu Minhong's inspirational speech: to run a private university in the true sense

My dream is to do two things for Chinese education: The first is to do profitable education and train education and industrialization. We have already done this. The second is to be a non-profit private university.
The establishment of a private university in China is based on the following two considerations:
First, I believe that for China's future education system, if the private education system does not develop and cannot compete with public education in certain areas, China's education will always be a leg-walking, and it is not easy to go well.
In the private education system, we only talk about higher education. The reform of the higher education system is imminent, and China must produce some private universities that can compete with China's outstanding public universities. I hope that in the next 50 years, when people refer to Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Zhejiang University, they can also mention the names of some private universities. The emergence of such a private university in the future will not only enhance the competitiveness of the Chinese education system, but also increase the diversity of student choices and promote the integration of Chinese education and the international community.
Second, at present, China's private education is maintained by student tuition. This is a very ridiculous reality. This means that no matter how you save, students are not well educated. Because you have that little money, how come you come to a good teacher? So basically private schools are asking some general teachers, how can they be competitive? Mr. Mei Qiqi, who was once the president of Tsinghua University, said: "University, non-buildings are also the masters." How important is the teacher to the university!
The private university model in my mind is that the school has enough money, students do not need to consider whether they can afford to pay, but only need to consider whether they are excellent or not. My enrollment principle is two: first, the students are not excellent, and secondly, as far as possible, recruit rural children who have good grades and have a promising future. I think rural children have the qualities that urban children do not have: hardship, tenacity, and understanding of the suffering of the public. Of course, rural children also have a lot of weaknesses, which may be relatively inferior. In the beginning, they were relatively narrow-minded, but these can be exercised. Therefore, this school is largely for rural children.
I want to use the foundation to run the school. The foundation earns money through capital operations, supports student tuition and hires famous professors. In this respect, I have my own unique advantages: First, I understand education; secondly, I don't want to make money from this school; again, I have the brand effect that I can appeal to all the best professors in China and around the world. With a brand-name teacher, students have no reason to not come.
The private university in New Oriental has already begun to acquire land. Of course, this will be a very difficult process. For example, after the completion of the infrastructure, the qualification of the undergraduate diploma is still subject to the approval of the Ministry of Education. There must be a lot of difficulties ahead, but I am not in a hurry and have patience. I am 46 years old this year. I feel that I still have time and I can finish this.
