Meng Na is a XX student in vehicle engineering at China Agricultural University. Her hometown is in Yucheng, Henan. In XX, Meng Na was admitted to the vehicle engineering program of China Agricultural University. My father sold all the food that the family could sell, and borrowed all the relatives and friends who could borrow money to send her to Beijing.

Mengna’s major requires a total of 6,200 yuan per year for tuition and miscellaneous fees. Mengna didn't have that much money. She had a total of 2,300 yuan. She took out 1,400 yuan to pay tuition and fees, and left 900 yuan for a one-year living expenses. Tuition fees that have not been paid can only be replenished slowly.

The school grants a living allowance of 107 yuan to each student every month. Mengna also applies for a job-study opportunity at the school. In the house where more than 40 computers were placed, Mengna used half an hour to clean up every day, so that she could earn 80 yuan a month.

Mengna didn't dare to go to the streets to buy things. One had to pay for the fare, and the other was expensive. A few days ago it was too hot, she spent 20 yuan to buy a t-shirt; there is no shoes to wear, and spent 30 yuan to buy a pair of shoes. There is also a jacket bought in the spring of Mengna cabinet, worth 19 yuan.

Mengna is a poor student in the school, but she is not the only one. Among the agricultural, forestry, and teacher-level colleges surveyed by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, the number of destitute female college students like Mengna exceeded 15% of the total number of students. They “difficult to meet the minimum living standard at the school’s place during the school’s basic living expenses. And unable to pay tuition fees and purchase necessary school supplies, there is no economic security in daily life." The China Poverty Alleviation Foundation’s “Report on the Survey of Poor Female College Students” shows that in general colleges and universities, the proportion of female students with special difficulties has reached 8%.

Five sets of numbers

● 15.7% from the only child family

Of the poor female college students surveyed, 19.4% came from agricultural universities, 6.6% from forestry universities, 6.6% from medical universities, 15.3% from normal universities, and 52.2% from comprehensive universities. More than 70% of the poor students come from the “old, small, border, mountain and poor” areas. The rural economy is sluggish and the family lacks labor, which makes the income only enough to maintain food and clothing. At the same time, due to the increasing number of urban poor families, especially laid-off workers, the re-employment rate of laid-off workers has declined compared with the previous years, making urban family support students face many difficulties. Among the poor female college students in this survey, 25.3% of the poor students came from urban families, and the remaining 74.7% came from rural areas. The vast majority of poor girls from the city are from both parents. Only 11.9% of female college students are from single-parent families, and 0.5% of poor female college students are orphans. In addition, 15.7% of poor female college students are from single-child families, and 84.3% of poor female college students come from families with two or more children.

● 93.7% monthly living expenses are less than 200 yuan

The living consumption level of poor female college students is very low. The basic living expenses during school are difficult to reach the minimum food standard in the school, and they are unable to pay tuition fees and purchase necessary school supplies. There is no economic security in daily life. According to the survey, the monthly living expenses of poor female college students who can pay them are less than 100 yuan, 38.1%, between 100 yuan and 200 yuan, 44.3%, and those above 200 yuan, only 17.6%. The monthly living expenses of poor students accounted for 28.7% between 51 yuan and 100 yuan, 37.9% of the expenditure between 101 yuan and 150 yuan, and the ratio of less than 200 yuan totaled 93.7%.

In terms of consumption other than eating, 13.7% of poor female college students have no financial ability to purchase school supplies, and 49.8% of poor female college students can only spend less than 20 yuan per month on personal school supplies. Up to 56.6% of poor female college students do not have the economic ability to purchase clothing, and 25.2% of monthly clothing expenditure can only be less than 20 yuan. 65.9% of female college students are unable to purchase cosmetics, and 31.5% of poor female college students can only spend less than 20 yuan per month.

Among the poor female college students in this survey, 45.6% of poor female college students have difficulty in living and can only be maintained by work-study; 42.2% of poor female college students are in a tight life, and their money must be carefully planned to maintain their lives; Up to 6.6% of poor female college students have a particularly difficult life and are unable to maintain and cannot continue to go to school.

● 84.7% of people are under pressure from economic difficulties

Because of poverty, female college students are under tremendous pressure, and there are many obstacles in amateur life. According to the survey, 84.7% of poor female college students are under pressure from family financial difficulties; 60.2% are under pressure to increase tuition fees; 48.5% are under pressure to increase living expenses; 42.0% are under pressure to learn tough; 28.1% are under pressure from unsatisfactory exams and are afraid of talking about money with classmates.

When encountering difficulties in life, 28.2% of the students are unwilling to let others know their own thoughts, 36.8% of the students choose to talk to the past students, 31.4% choose to talk to the current classmates, 28.0% talk to the family, 17.4 % talk to the school and teachers.

In the after-school time arrangement, 66.2% of the poor female college students' leisure activities are work-study; 83.8% of the poor female college students' leisure activities are learning, and only 9.6% of the poor female college students have leisure and entertainment activities. The work-study work is mainly on-campus work-study and tutoring, accounting for 50.3% and 45.5% respectively.

For the tuition and livelihood, poor female college students have to use their spare time or even class time to go out to work and earn money. Earning money is only to solve the problem of food and clothing. It is impossible to add school supplies, books, materials, etc., let alone image building. 56.6% of poor female college students do not buy clothing, and 65.9% of poor female college students do not buy cosmetics.

● Only 4.1% of poor female college students agree to love

Because of the pressure of the economically impoverished environment, falling in love has become a luxury for poor female college students. According to the survey, only 4.1% of poor female college students are in favor; 34.7% of poor female college students do not care; 26.8% of poor female college students do not agree; and 34.4% of poor female college students have not even thought about this problem.

On the issue of personal employment in the future, 2.8% of poor female college students have not considered this problem; only 6.7% of poor female college students have no confidence in their future employment, and they are overwhelmed; 43.1% of poor female college students think they graduate There should be a job afterwards; 47.4% of poor female college students are very confident in themselves and think that there will be a satisfactory job after graduation.

On the issue of receiving help, 86.1% of poor female college students are willing to accept the help of others when they encounter difficulties in their lives. 82.5% of poor female college students hope to get help on tuition fees, 40.3% hope to get help on living expenses, 38.2% want training, and 24.2% want psychological guidance.

● 73.0% of people live in non-western regions

The survey found that female college students from non-western regions are as poor as students from the western region. 27.0% of college impoverished female college students are born in the western region, and 73.0% of poor female college students are born in non-western regions.

Poor female college students in non-western regions have difficulties in living, and the ratio of hard work and schooling is 47.2%, which is 5.6 percentage points higher than that in the western region. The poor female college students in the western region are in a tight life, and their money is carefully planned. The proportion that can be maintained is 45.6%. , 4.8 percentage points higher than the non-western region.

Poor female college students, both in the western and non-western regions, are under great pressure to study and live. The poverty-stricken female college students in the western region are subject to family economic difficulties, rising living expenses, tight learning and unsatisfactory examinations: 86.8%, 51.7%, 45.9%, 32.2%, respectively, higher than the non-western regions 2.6, 4.3, 5.2 5.8 percentage points; the poverty-stricken female college students in non-western regions bear the pressure ratios of not seeing their personal future, monotony of life, fear of talking about money with their classmates, and ignorant friends: 11.8%, 16.3%, 28.9%, 25.3%, respectively, 1.6, 2.6, 3.0, and 19.9 percentage points higher than the western region.
