Survey report on employment status of college students

Yesterday, the Institute of Public Policy of Peking University published an investigation report on the job hunting and employment status of college students in XX. According to a questionnaire survey conducted by 11 universities across the country, as of the end of July, the employment rate of graduates reached 62.07%; the advantages of graduate students in ordinary universities compared with undergraduates were not obvious.

According to reports, the Institute has conducted a survey of the employment situation of college students for two consecutive years. Unlike last year, graduate students and junior college students who graduated this year are also included in the survey.

The employment gap between boys and girls is shrinking

[Investigation] The ratio of “signed contract” and “intended but not signed” for male graduates is 52.14%, and the proportion of female graduates is 46.62%. The difference between the two is less than 6 percentage points, compared with 14 percentage points last year. The gap has narrowed. In addition, the two are also consistent with the acceptable starting point for wages, mainly concentrated in the 1,000-3,000 yuan.

[Interpretation] Peking University Public Policy Research Institute believes that with the government's policy-oriented enhancement in eliminating employment discrimination and achieving equal employment, the impact of gender differences in the process of college students' job hunting, although still existing, has been greatly reduced. In addition, the cause of this phenomenon is also related to the increase in the proportion of female college students.

Graduate employment advantage is not outstanding

[Investigation] The proportion of college graduates who have “signed” and “has intention but not signed” is 49.16%, undergraduate graduates are 65.52%, and graduate students are 66.66%. 61.93% and 60.14% of the graduates and undergraduates respectively expected the salary to be 1,000 yuan - XX yuan, only 19.77% and 25.31% of the respondents will take XX yuan - 3000 yuan as their own salary expectations. Most of the graduate students will be able to locate the starting point of wages from XX yuan to 3,000 yuan, which is 54.12%.

[Interpretation] Peking University Public Policy Research Institute found that the advantages of graduate students in ordinary universities compared with undergraduates are not outstanding. Although the reasons for this phenomenon are pressure from the talent market and the inappropriate use of talents by employers, it is more inconsistent with the current graduate students, undergraduates and junior college students. Close contact. This phenomenon of highly educated talents occupying the employment of low-educated talents, in essence, highlights the problem of the quality of employment of college students.

College students have low awareness of policies

[Investigation] When it comes to how to solve the problem of college students' employment, 21.62% of the students regard the government's relevant policy support as "an effective way to solve the employment problem." However, college students tend to have very low awareness of policies. For example, when asked about the level of understanding of employment policies and incentives introduced by the state and local government departments, there are 11.18% and 51.62% of students respectively. Represents "do not understand" and "do not understand."

[Interpretation] Peking University Public Policy Research Institute believes that the propaganda of policies needs to be improved.

Lack of expression ability is a problem of job hunting

[Investigation] 24.93% of the students indicated that their personal abilities were insufficient and became the primary problem restricting successful career selection. Another 17.26% of the students believed that the lack of job search skills was the most headache in the job search process. Decomposing these capabilities found that the biggest problem in the job search process is the lack of self-expression ability, the proportion is as high as 40.23%, which is nearly 5 percentage points higher than last year's survey data, followed by foreign language ability, professional ability and interpersonal ability.

[Interpretation] Peking University Public Policy Research Institute believes that although college students have begun to pay attention to the comprehensive cultivation of their own abilities, the gap between personal ability and market demand still exists. It is recommended that college students start from the basics, accumulate strength, and grow their talents in continuous innovation.

University blindly seeking helpless employment

[Investigation] In the classified investigation of schools, the overall employment situation of schools with strong professionalism is generally stronger than that of comprehensive institutions. For example, the employment rate of China Metrology Institute has reached 85.89%, which is higher than that of general colleges and universities. .

[Interpretation] Peking University Public Policy Research Institute found that individual colleges and universities often fall into the double dilemma of type positioning confusion and hierarchical positioning confusion. The type positioning is chaotic, mainly because the comprehensive colleges and professional colleges are not obvious, and the characteristics are not clear. Judging from the 11 universities surveyed, although their school names have significant academic characteristics, they have been highly convergent in terms of professional settings, and basically have established majors in economics, literature, law, and management. The confusion of hierarchical positioning is mainly manifested in the unclear division of labor between comprehensive universities, colleges and higher vocational and technical colleges, and the mutual placement of posts. In the case of limited school resources, if the university blindly seeks to inevitably affect and disperse quality educational resources, it is also not conducive to student employment.
