Shanghai announced an intermediary investigation report for the first time to disclose the status quo of overseas study

According to relevant departments, China has become the world's largest study abroad country, with an average of 25,000 people going abroad every year to study in various foreign schools. Since most Chinese students have little knowledge of foreign education, school and professional settings, a large number of students are embarking on the road to study through the study abroad agencies.

The first “Investigation Report on Study Abroad Institutions”, jointly organized by the Municipal Education Commission’s International Exchange Office, the City Association of Overseas Studyers and the magazine “Chengcai and Employment”, was officially launched today. The report disclosed the status quo of studying abroad from one aspect for the first time by investigating 12 legally-recognized intermediaries in Shanghai, which were identified by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Security and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

International student gender

Are parents more reassured that the boys "go far away"? From this survey, this view is clearly untenable. Among the students who have already or are preparing to go abroad, women account for 50.1% and men account for 49.9%. Although women only win with a slight advantage of 0.1%, this 0.1% is far-reaching. In the learning city of Shanghai, women are no less demanding than men, and their curiosity is equally strong.

Age distribution of international students

The survey divided the age of students into seven levels, of which the number of international students aged 20 to 24 was 60.8%, followed by 27% from 15 to 19 years old, and 10.1% from 25 to 29 years old. For the phenomenon of “learning for studying abroad”, which is more concerned about in recent times, the survey shows only 0.1% of the data. It seems that many parents have become more rational, sending children who do not have strong control and management skills to foreign countries, and staying away from their loved ones will inevitably be detrimental to their future growth.

Brand cognition approach

How do foreign students know about intermediaries? According to the data, 74.6% of the respondents were informed through the introduction of newspapers and magazines, 18.8% were introduced by others, the Internet was 16%, and the TV publicity was only 4.3%.

Monthly income of international students

Studying abroad is still a high consumption and requires a strong economic foundation to back it up. According to the survey, the monthly income of the families with the largest number of international students is between 5,000 yuan and 6,000 yuan and more than 10,000 yuan, the percentages of the two are 17.5% and 16.4%, while the households with income below 1,000 yuan are only 0.3%.

In addition, the monthly income of foreign students' families is between 6,000 yuan and 10,000 yuan. Such high-income families are not as high as people think. They live comfortably and pursue diversity, and it is not a primary requirement for children to study abroad.

Major study abroad

According to the survey, the most favorite countries for studying in Shanghai are: Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Japan, Germany, etc. The proportion of the top three is: Australia 15.1%, New Zealand 14.9%, Britain 14.2%.

Intermediary agency fee

The survey will use 14,000 yuan as the "watershed" of agency fees. The countries with higher agency fees are: the United States, Denmark, Canada, etc.; the countries with lower agency fees are: Japan, Malaysia, Switzerland, etc.

Expert comment: As one of the birthplaces of Chinese students studying abroad, Shanghai is a big “cheese” in the national study market. Shanghainese people in international metropolises are also more willing to go abroad, exercise themselves, accept the enthusiasm of various ideas, and make themselves international multi-disciplinary talents. Shanghai has become the "shipping center" for studying abroad.

This social assessment of the study abroad intermediary market will not only further confirm Shanghai's position in the national study market, but also provide a basis for the scientific management of government departments and play a guiding role in social demand.
