2004 China Retail Industry Informatization Survey Report

In September 2003, Lianhe.com launched a nationwide survey on the application of information technology for retail enterprises. The investigation time was maintained for one and a half months, more than 1,000 questionnaires were issued, and 258 valid and valid questionnaires were returned. The survey adopts a combination of online survey and offline. The retail enterprises involved in the survey involve major cities across the country, involving retail enterprises of different sizes, different formats and different natures.
Based on the results of the survey, we analyze the following:
I. Overall situation of domestic retail industry information construction
1. Under investigation of the distribution of domestic retail enterprises:
Judging from the number of surveyed companies, shopping malls accounted for 24% of surveyed companies, 17% of department stores, 20% of hypermarkets, 20% of small and medium-sized supermarkets, 11% of convenience stores, and 8% of specialty stores. For this result, we think that the definition of shopping center may not be very clear. Many department stores will also be classified as shopping centers. Many domestic supermarkets are partially rebuilt or rebuilt in the original department store, and the answer is multiple choices. According to the effective distribution of the business distribution of enterprises, we believe that the characteristics of domestic retail distribution can be basically reflected, so the following information survey results are more realistic and effective.
2. The information system that has been applied at present:
According to the survey, more than 82% of the companies surveyed have applied POS-MIS, which means that the companies participating in the survey basically applied the third-generation POS machine and implemented the single product management; because only the point-of-sale system was applied. In order to give accurate information to the financial system, the financial system is applied less than POS-MIS, accounting for only 67%, which fully shows that the information level of domestic retail enterprises is still at a lower level;
3. Emphasis on the construction of information technology:
According to the survey results, most retail enterprises attach great importance to or pay more attention to informatization construction. It seems that with the benefits brought by information construction, such as efficiency improvement, error reduction, cost reduction, accurate decision-making and other aspects of benefits The embodiment of the retail industry, especially the supermarket chain, is very dependent on the information system. Some retail companies even say that it is worthwhile to spend more on the information system.

According to the survey results, 56.0% of the people under 10 people, 34.2% of 10-29 people, 3.8% of 30-49 people, and 6.0% of 50 people.
5. In what areas does the company need to strengthen information construction:
57% of domestic retailers believe that there is a need to strengthen supply chain management. There are two reasons for this: First, domestic retail companies need to apply SCM technology to their upstream suppliers to improve the externality of goods. Supply chain; on the other hand, it should be that the domestic IT vendors' logistics distribution modules are generally weak, and internal supply chain management needs to be strengthened. 1. Investment scale of hardware system:

2, the main hardware products:
Among the server brands, companies that choose IBM servers account for one-third of the companies surveyed, mainly due to IBM's good relationship with retail software vendors and Blue Express services, and IBM's in minicomputers and PC Server has two outstanding products; followed by HP, HP has been favored by many users with its stable quality and performance;
Among the cash register brands, the largest number is still used by IBM, which is in line with the title of “International Business Machine Company”; Hisense is the most sold of domestic brands; but this year with the involvement of some Taiwanese OEMs. The gradual popularity of split-type cash registers, the entire situation is estimated to have some changes.
The general commercial printers are mainly divided into needle printers and laser printers. In the needle printers, EPSON is the most used brand, and the most widely used is LQ1600K and subsequent products; In laser printers, HP has the largest market share.

There are only a handful of brands of hardware vendors, and the choice and trust of software vendors. There is a strong contrast, but there are not many domestic software companies, but they can really reflect the brand effect.
3. Satisfaction of the hardware system:
For the satisfaction of the currently used hardware system, most users have chosen two options: satisfactory and general. Only a few users have chosen to be very satisfied, poor and poor.
4. The most important factors when purchasing hardware products:
In commercial applications, the quality of computer hardware products is in the first place, followed by service, and the price is not in a very important position. Because in the operation of the mall, whether it is the server crash, the network failure or the sudden strike of the cash register will cause the store to suffer significant reputation loss and economic loss, so the quality is the most choice for the business computer hardware products. The point of attention is followed by how to recover in the shortest time in the event of a hardware failure, that is, the speed of after-sales service.
Third, the software system and network system overview
1. The scale of investment in the software system or the scale of the proposed investment:
Similar to the investment scale of the hardware system, the software system investment scale is also the largest 100,000-500,000, accounting for 40% of the surveyed enterprises, while the software investment scale of more than 1 million enterprises only accounted for 17% of the surveyed enterprises. Generally speaking, in the ERP system of retail enterprises, the software investment scale will exceed 1 million. This ratio fully shows that the informationization level of China's retail enterprises is still at a stage of initial development.
2, the development of software systems:
Because of the professional advantages of dedicated software, most retail enterprises will choose the special software suitable for their own use. Such enterprises account for 57% of the surveyed enterprises; only a few retail enterprises with strong strength and early employment choose to develop independently. In addition, the department store format is mostly, this way can fully meet its own application requirements, such enterprises account for 10% of the surveyed enterprises; and the interface with special software, secondary development or functional expansion is not a minority, so It can not only maintain the advanced and complete technology, but also meet its own application requirements. Although retail companies that use professional software supplier products account for 57%, the proportion of independent development and cooperative development is still thought-provoking. The survey also showed that the transformation and upgrading of software and the inspection of software vendors have become the main measures being implemented in enterprise information application. It can be seen that in actual operation, the computer systems of most retail enterprises have not achieved their expected results. Retail companies believe that software developers do not understand the business, and their products can not meet the new demands of the company's continuous development; software developers believe that retail enterprises are not standardized, management personnel are low-quality, and they place too much expectation on software. Insufficient, I hope that the software system is 'universal'. It is the lack of understanding of the rules of the enterprise that requires “management, process coordination, segmentation, and gradual improvement”. The contradiction between the use of information technology in retail enterprises and software developers, as well as the inconsistency in understanding, has had a great negative impact on the effective application of information technology in retail enterprises, and has seriously restricted the development of China's retail software development industry. . This situation, if not improved in the next few years, will likely become one of the bottlenecks in the development of China's retail industry.
3. Currently used network operating system:
It seems that Windows 2000 and Windows NT rely on their ease of use and good security, as well as the price advantage, occupying more than half of the commercial network operating system, accounting for 73%; Unix is ​​the preferred choice for high-end users. However, the number of high-end users in the retail industry is relatively small, so it can only account for 18% of the market share; while Linux and Netware are relatively new, one is older, and the supported software is not much, so it accounts for The share is very small, but as people become more familiar with Linux and support its application software, I believe that the number of users of Linux will slowly increase.
4. Currently used database software:
Commercial databases generally use large-scale relational databases. Retail companies that use small databases such as FOXPRO and ACCESS are rare. The largest number of MS-SQL users in large relational databases. Thanks to its cheap price and its compatibility with the Windows operating system; SYBASE and ORACLE are different because of their respective advantages; and IBM DB2 is due to the high degree.
5. The remote communication mode adopted:
Because of the distance between the chain stores and the local telecommunications tariffs, there are also requirements for immediacy. Retail companies will adopt different remote communication methods according to different situations. For enterprises with high immediacy requirements, DDN or frames will generally be selected. 6. Satisfaction with the software system:
According to the survey data, nearly 90% of retail companies are satisfied or still able to use the software currently used. Few companies are very satisfied with the software, and few of them think that the software used is very bad. The situation that we often see complaints on online forums is quite different. It may be a good thing not to go out, and the bad things are a thousand miles away!
7. What is the most important point when purchasing software products:
Software products are intangible. Unlike other tangible products, software is the camera of enterprise management and operation. Therefore, the most important thing for buyers is the function and after-sales service of software. Management ideas are the key to enterprise management, so the function of software is The most important thing is followed by after-sales service. Without good implementation and service, there is no way to play well with software functions. Generally speaking, before purchasing software, the price factor has a great influence on the choice of software.
