Inspirational story: measuring river width

Mind: There are always more methods than problems. For some difficult problems, there is no solution, but you have not found it. Wisdom itself is hidden in our minds. Eliminating inertia and daring to surpass oneself will make our wisdom fully manifest and give ourselves the ultimate success.

On the way to the march, Napoleon led the troops and an engineer to explore the road first. They came to a river, there was no bridge on the river, but the troops had to pass through the river quickly.

Napoleon asked the engineer: "Tell me how wide the river is?"

"Sorry, sir," the engineer replied. "My measurements are all in the back of the army. They are ten miles away from us."

"I want you to measure it right away."

"This can't be done, sir."

"I ordered you to give me the width of the river right away, or I will punish you!"

The engineer quickly thought of a way: he took off his helmet and let the brim and his eyes, as well as the other side of the river, be in a straight line. Then he carefully kept his body upright and continually stepped back, waiting for the eyes, the brim and the corresponding point of the river rock to be in a straight line, and he stopped. He marked his position and then measured the distance between the two points. Then he said to Napoleon: "This is the approximate width of the river." Napoleon was so happy that he immediately upgraded his position.
