Jump only once in a lifetime
In the winter of 1959, in a private room at the Omaha Club in the United States, a senior lawyer met with a new client. The two met and hated each other and had a good time.
Not long after, the lawyer made an astonishing decision to resign from the lawyer's job and quit to the client's company.
His decision was strongly opposed by his family. After all, the lawyer is 35 years old, not a young man in his 20s. He has already passed the hearty and frequent job-hopping age, and he graduated from Harvard Law School with honors. He has been a lawyer in the California court for 11 years. The work is stable and decent. If you want to change jobs, you must also work towards a more professional and highly paid large corporate legal counsel.
However, regardless of his family’s opposition, the lawyer resigned from his lawyer’s job, became a partner of the client company, and began to engage in new jobs – investment.
No one thought that this job-hopping became the only job-changing job for a lawyer in his lifetime. He did 55 years of investment in this unpopular investment. Today, the lawyer is 90 years old. He is the famous Charlie Munger. His partner is the investment master Warren Buffett. Their company is Berkshire. Over the past half century, Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett have teamed up to create the best investment record ever – the book value of Berkshire's stock at an average annual rate of 20.3%. Created a myth of investment, the stock price per share rose from $19 to $84,487.
If Charlie Munger didn't bravely change jobs, then it would be very likely that he would work as a lawyer for a lifetime until he retired. He might become a good senior legal counsel, but he would never be a good investment guru today.
We often admire the achievements of others, but often overlook the possibility of creating miracles. On the other hand, the young people nowadays are either low-eyed and eager to quit, and eventually they can jump without a slot; or they are dissatisfied with the status quo but are afraid of change and dare not quit, leading to regret for life.
It takes courage to jump once in a slot, but only one time in a lifetime, in addition to courage, you need perseverance. You can also create miracles by taking courage and perseverance like Charlie Munger.
